After a leisurely breakfast this morning at the hotel (free!) we headed out toward Glacier National Park.
With all the driving Paul has done we were wanting an easier day, but couldn’t stay still!
And of course we had to take this picture!
I thought the amount of visitors would slow down in the fall but look at the line to get in.
Our first stop was the Apgar area. This is on the western side of the park, just past West Glacier. It is at the end of McDonald Lake. Here are a few pictures from the area.
You know how you look back at old vacation pictures and think, “Remember that old car?” Or “What was I wearing?” Well here’s that picture for posterity.
Look at the old touring cars they have! So cool to see them in action.
A few more from the Apgar area.
We then went down the road to check out Lake McDonald Lodge. There is just something special about these old lodges!
The back of the lodge faces the lake.
This spring empties into the lake
Since today is a short day we headed out of the park to visit Whitefish but this caught our attention…
I’ve read about yurts and thought that maybe this was a good chance to check one out!
These were not exactly the kind of yurts I had heard of but they were interesting. Kind of like a round platform tent. (Yes, as a mother of Girl Scouts I have slept in a platform tent. I can do anything for my girls!)
Now on to Whitefish.
Whitefish is a beautiful town with breathtaking mountains in the distance. It is quite “upscale”. We had frozen yogurt at the Red Caboose and it was precious.
Standard chocolate and vanilla combo with the local “huckleberry” flavor on top!
Remember what I told you yesterday about the number of bars and casinos? Well how’s this for entertainment? Just had to snap a pic.
Dinner tonight at Hop’s. It was delicious. So fun to try the local haunts!
We are having a wonderful trip and are looking forward to a big day tomorrow!
